Polyphenols are lost during haemodialysis due to diffusion through dialysis membrane. Proportional clearance is comparable to that of urea. Thus haemodialysis can decrease amount of polyphenols in human body. This can subsequently augment chronic oxidative stress and inflammation in relevant patients being an additional risk factor for progression of cardiovascular diseases.
